Berberis Thunbergii is a small ornamental shrub reaching 1 to 2 metres high. It is used also as a natural barrier, as a group.
The foliage is a beautiful red, spring, and throughout the summer.
The leaves become really red-wine in full sun. Fall colors are bright red-purple.
The trunk develops easily. Small needles are present along the branches.
The trunk, branches, and roots are rigid and can break easily if attempting to bend them. From late April to early may, pending small yellow flowers grow on the branches.
Hardiness zone : -32°C mini in winter. The tree do not appreciate the high humidity of very hot climates. Berberis thunbergii prefers moist, well drained soil.
Germination : seed must dip in slightly warm water for a period of 24-48 hours. Subsequently, 2 months of stratification cold is required before planting in gardening soil. Keep the soil moist, not soggy. Keep the pot to the heat between 20°C and 24°C and obtain a light source. Germination usually takes 2-3 months.
