Flowering is from April to June. The fruit is not edible. This ornamental tree can reach a height of 20 m and a width of 10 m. Its Crown is round and symmetrical. Its trunk is dark grey and orange-salmon under its edges.
Early, he grows disorganized but becomes uniform and very beautiful with age. Very easy to cultivate and transplant. A deciduous tree pinnate, 5-6 pairs of 20-25 cm long narrow leaves. Gloss leaves are green-dark during the summer and a beautiful red to orange in the fall. The color change is clearly asynchronous for Pistacia chinensis.
Hardiness zone : 6-9°C. Pistacia chinensis quickly grows in full sun. Prefers well drained soils and will withstand extremely well to the heat and drought.
Germination : Pistacia chinensis seeds require scarification. Two months of cold stratification can accelerate germination, so it might be best to sow the seed early in the winter. Soak the seeds for 3-4 days in hot water. Planting to a depth of about 3 cm and a temperature of about 20ºC. Keep the wet soil and give lots of light. Germination is variable and may be slow.
