Heliconia Aemygdiana is of average size of 1 to 2 metres high. It produces up to 14 straight, rose-purple and yellow bracts. Fruits are large, round, green and a shade of blue when mature. A Heliconia can flourish in a pot.
For a flowering of the second or third year, you must keep the pot warm during the winter. Flowering occurs from May to August. Under reasonable conditions, it flowers throughout the year.
Hardiness zone : -5 ° mini C in winter. Heliconia aemygdiana is rather tolerant to cold. The soil must be rich, containing foam of rootlike, organic matter and sand; fertilize regularly. Use a fertilizer for Palm trees and plant in well drained soil. This plant requires lots of water. Keep the soil moist, not soggy.
